Ranching Within a National Monument - Our Unique Story

For 90 years our family has raised cattle in the unique landscape of southern New Mexico. The Sierra Alta Ranch sits in the heart of the Organ Mountain Desert Peaks National Monument. Like other ranchers in the monument, we are entrusted as stewards of this irreplaceable land.

Our family has spent the last 30 years on this ranch developing our brangus cattle herd into what it is today. Our cattle thrive on the native plants and grasses that have grown in this region for centuries, creating the flavors and marbling that reflect this unique territory. Every cut tells the story of this protected land and our families commitment to ranching with integrity.

Meet the Mobley Family - Four Generations of Southwest Ranching

I’m Brannon Mobley, the fourth generation rancher and the face behind Sierra Alta Meat Co. our families New Mexico ranching story starts in the 1930’s when my great-grandfather Alvin Richard “Dick” Hille homesteaded in Caballo NM.

He Spent his summers working in the Black Range on the Ladder Ranch. He would use his wages to buy cattle and drive them back to the homestead. He was also part of some of the last great cattle drives north to Socorro and Magdalena.

Today, my wife and I are raising our son Paden - the fifth generation -  on the Sierra Alta Ranch, which my papa, Tom Mobley bought in 1998. We are raising him with the same integrity and passion for ranching that our family has lived by for decades. However, we are breaking tradition by selling direct to families instead of the sale barn, because we believe you deserve better than grocery store mystery meat.
